Job Vacancy: Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in managing and supervising day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting, and supporting the implementation of financial strategies. The role provides timely and reliable financial information to the Finance Manager and, when necessary, prepares reports for external stakeholders such as auditors, regulatory authorities, and financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and related processes.
  • Work closely with operations and upcountry technicians to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial information and proper documentation.
  • Partner across functions within and outside finance to act as liaison between departments.
  • Audit & Tax Management: Coordinate annual external audits, prepare tax returns, and ensure adherence to Tanzanian tax laws.
  • Cost Control & Inventory Management: Oversee cost accounting, including tracking spares, casual labor, and other maintenance-related costs. Implement cost-control strategies to improve margins.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with TRA, NSSF, VAT, IFRS/TFRS, and anti-fraud measures.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports). Conduct variance analysis and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives for operational excellence.
  • Support health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices by cooperating with others, not misusing safety resources, and participating in company-provided HSE training.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience in a publicly traded company (energy/oil & gas sector preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance. CPA certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS; understanding of SOX environment is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in SAGE or similar accounting software; skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
