National Institute of Transport (NIT)
The National Institute of Transport (NIT) was established by Act of Parliament, Number. 24 of 1982 (Cap 187 revised edition 2009). The history of NIT dates back to 1975, when the complexity of the transport sector and the intricacies involved in its management necessitated the introduction of comprehensive training programmes for the development of sectorial manpower. Currently, the Institute is under the Ministry of Transport. It is fully accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTVET) with Certificate of Registration Number REG./ EOS/009 of 2002.
It offers education and training programmes leading to qualifications recognized nationally and internationally.

Important Notes for Prospective Participants
- Applicants for PSV, HGV, Industrial and VIP driving courses must pay a pre-test fee of 20,000 TZS and pass a practical pre-test before full admission.
- Participants are advised to register before the course begins.
- Fees must be paid before the registration date.
- Cheque payments should be submitted at the Institute offices located at Mabibo, Dar es Salaam.
- All payments must be made via Control Numbers issued by the GePG system. Contact the Institute before making any payment.
- Confirm the course availability with the NIT Admissions Office before registering.
- Participants are responsible for their own meals and accommodation.
- A course will only begin if minimum class size is reached.
- Courses marked with a double asterisk ** (**) will start only if enough participants enroll.
- VIP course graduates wishing to upgrade to driving class C1 must pass a Police Competency Test to receive certification.
