Position Summary
To join our team, we are seeking a competent Occupational Health and Safety Officer. To guarantee a secure and legal workplace, the chosen applicant will be in charge of putting workplace health and safety policies into place, keeping an eye on them, and enforcing them.
Reporting to: Administrative Officer
Key Responsibilities
1. Policy and Compliance:
- Create and carry out initiatives and policies related to occupational health and safety (OHS).
- Verify adherence to regional, national, and worldwide safety standards.
- Keep incident reports and records of your statutory compliance.
2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Perform routine risk assessments and safety audits.
- Determine the risks and suggest ways to avoid them.
- Examine mishaps, occurrences, and close calls in order to suggest solutions.
3. Training and Education:
- Create and present safety education initiatives.
- Make certain that every employee is aware of and complies with safety protocols.
- Provide new hires with a health and safety orientation.
4. Emergency Preparedness:
- Create and oversee emergency response strategies.
- Plan frequent drills (such as evacuation and fire) and make sure all the equipment is in working order.
5. Health Promotion:
- Encourage wellness initiatives for staff members.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to monitor the health of employees who are at risk.
6. Reporting and Documentation:
- Create regular reports on health and safety performance for management.
- In accordance with legal and policy requirements, make sure that documentation is accurate and submitted on time.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A degree or diploma in environmental science, industrial engineering, or occupational health and safety.
- OSHA, First Aid, and Fire Safety (Tanzania) certified training.
- Two years or more of experience in the field.
- Strong knowledge of safety procedures and PPE use in production settings.
- It must be younger than 35.
- Knowledge of the OHS legislation and regulations in Tanzania.
- Proficiency in training and communication.
- Self-driven, disciplined, and capable of working with little direction.
